      1880 Unable to locate Andrew

Guess: Andrew’s wife may have been Eliza Gowan, and the last 3 were her brother’s kids (she and the children’s father were born in Arkansas)  There is probably a good story as to why they were called the children of Andrew and/or Liza.   Thomas appears to be Andrew’s son.

Apparently moved to Texas about 1901, Thomas and Lola moved back between 1906 and 1909,  Sam seems to have died.

Indicate Andrew Jackson Alford, born 7 Jan 1851 was the son of Thomas Jefferson Alford and Mary E Adams, of Harris County, Georgia, and that Andrew married first Ellen Turner (1873) and second Eliza Nicholson, but has nothing further.

      His line is shown as:

      . Thomas Jefferson Alford (c1832-aft.1890)  m.1850 Mary E Adams
      . . William Henry Alford (c1811-aft.1860) m.1831 Elizabeth Stillwell

      . . . Job Alford (c1763-c1851) married Sarah Turner

      . . . . Julius Caesar Alford (1717-1771) married Lucy Newton?

      . . . . . James Alford (1687-1730)

      . . . . . . John Alford Sr (1645-1710) married Elizabeth Lettice

      . . . . . . . William Alford (c1630-1675) married Dorothy

      . . . . . . . . and 4 additional generations, well beyond what is actually proven.

Looks good so far, William H even named his second son Job, indicating his possible father’s name (above).

Next:  Check for Estate Administrations (not just wills) and deeds in White Co, Arkansas, to see a connection between Andrew and Thomas AND/OR Mary

Then: Same in Harris County Georgia for Thomas to William AND/OR Elizabeth/Betsy

Also look for Thomas’ Civil War Records.  He may have received a pension for service in a Georgia unit (20th 36th and 37th Infantry), when living in Arkansas.

Can we assume you have checked all of the Censuses available? Have you posted on Roots Web boards? Search "google" books. I found info. there, that led me to a Court record of my Alford. Don't give up!

I don’t have anything about him either. My grandfather, James Alvin, was born in 1852 in S.C. and came to Georgia, Gwinnett County.

Wish I had something to offer regarding Andrew Jackson Alford. Washington state? That sounds so strange but then again, I have a brother living there. Imagine the strength of will to make the journey 'back in the day'!

      Hello all you Alfords!

I am trying to solve an Alford puzzle and hope you can help.  Is anyone out there related to Andrew Jackson Alford, born about 1851 in Georgia, who married Ellen Turner, born about 1853 in Kentucky?  I believe the couple ended up in White county Arkansas where they raised their family, but I am having a hard time finding documentation.

One branch ended up in Washington state -- imagine that!  They became Seahawks!

      Please send me some clues....
