Landmark Ballot Initiative Launched to Ban Abusive Factory Farming
      Practices in Arizona

A groundbreaking ballot initiative is now underway in Arizona to
outlaw the cruel and intensive confinement of pregnant pigs and veal
calves on industrialized factory farms. Volunteers must gather
200,000 signatures to place a measure on the 2006 November ballot.
      Your help is needed!

We will be having a special planning meeting for local activists who
would like to be Location Coordinators for this campaign. This
meeting is next Tuesday, September 13th at 7pm. If you are
interested, please email kari@... for meeting
      details.

As a Location Coordinator, your main responsibility is to oversee
the signature-gathering effort at your selected location. We will
give each Location Coordinator thorough training to ensure that all
of your questions are answered. Your main duties will be:
      * Learn About Your Location
      * Obtain Materials from the Campaign Office
      * Coordinate Volunteers Weekly (we will provide you with names)
      * Keep In Contact With Your Volunteers

Hundreds of volunteer petitioners are needed to collect the 200,000
signatures needed to make this ballot initiative a reality in
Arizona! If you would like to volunteer to collect signatures,
please contact Arizonans for Humane Farms and attend one of the kick-
      off meetings.

Campaign kick-off and volunteer training meetings are scheduled for
the first week of October in Flagstaff, Phoenix and Tucson.
Spearheaded by Arizonans for Humane Farms, these sessions will
prepare volunteers for the signature gathering process and will
feature guest speakers Wayne Pacelle of the Humane Society of the
United States and Gene Bauston of Farm Sanctuary.

      BRIEF CAMPAIGN BACKGROUND:
In an effort to continually increase productivity and profit,
factory farms are known to treat feeling, sensitive animals as
nothing more than commodities. Both veal calves and breeding pigs
are kept so severely confined in crates that the animals cannot even
turn around or extend their limbs. The extremely overcrowded
conditions cause extreme suffering for the animals, in addition to
polluting the air, contaminating groundwater and threatening human
health. Both veal and gestation crates are so cruel that they have
been outlawed in several other countries. And, in fact, the
gestation crate was outlawed through a precedent-setting citizen
      initiative in Florida in 2002.

For more information on the campaign, for additional facts about
gestation crates and veal crates, and to read the exact language of
      the initiative, please visit www.yesforhumanefarms.org.

Don't miss this opportunity to be a part of this history-making
      campaign!
