Two New HSUS Meetups Announced In Partnership With Grey2K USA!

Below is the alert sent out by Grey2K USA - please plan to attend one of the meetings to learn more about this issue! Both of these events have been posted to the HSUS Meetup page, so you can RSVP for each one individually at http://www.meetup.com/hsus-az

The moment has finally come! Senate Bill 1294, GREY2K USA's bill to end dog racing in Arizona by 12/31/10, has been filed by Arizona State Senators Paula Aboud and Jonathan Paton. HB 2637, a bill to immediately ban the use of anabolic steroids in racing greyhounds, has also been filed. Together, these two bills will make history and help thousands of greyhounds in the Grand Canyon state.

But now we need your help to pass these groundbreaking pieces of legislation.

Please join us for organizational meetings in Tucson and Phoenix later this month. You will receive information about greyhound racing in Arizona and meet some of the many people who will be working together to end this cruelty.

      When: Friday, February 26
      5:30 - 7:30 p.m.

Where: State of Arizona Legislative Office
      State of Arizona Complex
      158 North Building
      400 West Congress Street
      Tucson, AZ 85701

      When: Saturday, February 27
      1:00 - 3:00 p.m.

      Where: Charity Charms Showroom
      4225 Camelback Road
      Phoenix, AZ 85018

Please note: Meetings will begin and end promptly, so please be on time.

As long as dog racing continues in Arizona, greyhounds will suffer. To read a history of dog racing in the state, and to see the latest injury records, please go to our web site at http://www.grey2kusa.org/action/az.html. Lobbying materials will be provided at each meeting.

What Happens to Animals at ASU?

A shocking look at cruel classroom laboratories and modern alternatives to the use of animals, with PETA research supervisor Justin Goodman.

      Tuesday, March 2nd
      12:00pm - 1:00pm
      Arizona State University (Tempe Campus)
      Memorial Union
      Pima Auditorium 230
      University Drive and Mill Avenue
      Tempe, AZ 85287

In January, members of the student animal rights organization at ASU delivered more than 1,500 petition signatures to the Provost of the University, demanding an end to controversial campus experiments on animals, along with a letter from peta2, challenging administrators to a debate on the issue. The administration has ignored this request.

As such, they will be hosting PETA research supervisor Justin Goodman at ASU, to speak about the abuses rabbits and other animals face in classroom experiments, as well as the non-animal alternatives available. The event will be co-sponsored between Students Taking Action for Animal Rights (STAAR) and peta2--PETA's student wing.

This free event is open to the public.
