The Blythe reenactment turned out to be one of the best community supported events I have ever seen!
The camping was mostley shaded and the grass was green.
The battles were designed well and the participation of 5 cannons made sure the public drank in as much smoke as they could use!
The community was all out for this event, signs all over town even tent cards at the restaurant tables!
The newspaper sponsored a coloring contest of Pres. Lincoln which drew over 100 entries from first graders and Kindergarten. Ten winners were picked and got the whole back page of the local newspaper and ate with us Saturday night.
The Saturday night meal was pit roasted pig and trimmings supplied by a group of ladies who bought the pig at the Couty Fair!
Thirty gate students joined parents, the coloring contest winners and volunteers to watch a night firing demo.
A preacher from town gave the Sunday services under the shade of a huge tree!
The City supplied two volunteer Police to patrol the event all weekend and the Police chief, his Lt. and Sargeant stopped by at intervals to see if we needed anything more! The mayor, city manager and a whole platoon of the community leaders showed up to watch.
The fishing was great bass and 4 foot cat fish were being pulled out. The locals said those were the babies and real ones will pull you in the water!
This is going to become a great regional event even though it is far from the center of the ACWS population. Some of us had to drive 7 hours to get there but it is worth it.
I apologize for the timing of the event a couple of monthes advance notice was not enough to get a lot of people to turn out but that was the best time for Blythe and we were willing to take the risk.
Many many thanks to the reenactors who made it happen.
We look forward to seeing you great Arizona units next year.
See you at Las Vegas
