A huge thank you to all who attended our 28th Annual Pancake Breakfast and those who volunteered their time! It was a huge success with nearly 600 plates of pancakes served.

Also a great big thank you to the band that performed that morning, Antigua Coffee, Jamba Juice, Dollar Book Store, Trader Joes, The Los Angeles County Fire Department who brought the Shakey Quakey house and a very special thank you to Dana Johnson who provided the grill.

It was a great morning and we are glad we were able to share it with you. We appreciate your continued support to our school.

Perhaps you've heard rumblings about SUPER STAR Tuesdays? Or received a flyer invitation to the Enchanted Green Hallow's Eve event Oct 26th & 27th? How about setting a date for our Winter Extravaganza Theatre production? Here's what all the excitement's about!

Halloween is fast approaching, and that means our Enchanted Green Hallow's Eve event is nearly here too! This is a fabulous weekend event what will be held at our headquarters in Culver City on Saturday Oct 26, and Sunday October 27. If you haven't been to a STAR event at the HQ trust it is well worth the drive!!! This is one of our bigger and most exciting events of the year. There'll be mazes, costume contests, face painting (perhaps done by Mr. Dan himself?), food, prizes, and much more.
Our STAR theatre actors have received their scripts and music CD's, and begun learning their parts for our Adventures in Broadwayland production and I am super happy to announce the date for our show. SAVE THE DATE: STAR Winter Extravaganza Monday, December 16th @ 5:00pm!!! Stay tuned for more details as we get closer to our big event; it's going to be fantastic!
Tuesday Oct 15th will be our first SUPER STAR Tuesday!
Once a month we will also name our SUPER STAR Students of the month in an All-STAR assembly.
Sports on Monday will be replaced with a Kid's Choice rotation where students can choose between playing Board Games (Chess, Sorry!, Connect 4, etc.) or Yard Games (Duck-Duck-Goose, GaGa Ball (ask the kids about this one!), Knockout, etc.).
Tuesday STAR Art, and Tuesday IQ Go! Literacy has swapped places on our calendar.
Cooking on Friday's will now take place bi-weekly, and alternate with STAR Science classes. During STAR Science we'll be doing some fun hands on experiments & activities with the kids. Some classes will be food related, like the study of how our bodies digest food, while others may just be simple science awesomeness.
STAR Shop will now be held every other Friday during our Game Zone rotation (5:30-6:00pm).
We've also made a couple other class additions and schedule changes. Please pick up the October STAR Calendar to reference our daily activities in the STAR office at school.

Whoa… so much awesome, so little time! We trust your STAR students are enjoying their time afterschool with us, and we thank you for the opportunity to provide excellent learning opportunities for your children. They're all wonderful young people, and we're overjoyed to have them in our program. Feel free to call/email or stop by the STAR room if you have any questions or need more info about our classes/activities. Was your Halloween a HUGE success and you collected more candy than you can eat? Please consider sharing some of your excess candy with our troops through Operation Gratitude. We will be collecting candy all this week, (Mon-Fri) in the Parent Room. Please separate chocolates from non chocolate candies, as they have different shipping methods. Our troops love to get your letters and pictures of thanks as a friendly reminder of home, so include one with your candy if you can. Not only are you helping to bring something sweet to our men and women who are serving our country far away, but you are helping them share our sweet treats with children in countries that have been torn apart by wars. Check out Operation Gratitude's Facebook Page for more photos and messages from our troops. A HUGE thank you for your help!

The National PTA Reflections program encourages students to explore the arts and express themselves by giving positive recognition for their artistic efforts. This year’s theme is “Believe, Dream, Inspire”. Encourage your child(ren) to unleash their artistic talents and submit an original piece, inspired by this year's theme, in any of following arts areas: Dance choreography, Photography, Film Production, Musical Composition, Literature and Visual Arts. To allow student artworks to be recognized and judged with the appropriate developmental age and skill levels in mind, the Reflections Program is organized by school grade, offering 4 for Mt Washington Elementary divisions:

The Mt. Washington PTA would like to take this opportunity to say thank you for all that you do. If you take a moment to reflect on all that we have and all that we are able to provide to our children, you will see how truly special our little school on the hill is. Because of your help and support in our fundraising efforts we are able to maintain the environment we want our school to have and are able to have a positive impact on our community. We are grateful for the many, many, hours you spend volunteering your valuable time, whether it's one event a year, one hour in the classroom, on a weekly basis (or on a daily basis for some), it is that kind of generosity that sets our school apart. We are grateful for our incredible teaching and administrative staff who enrich our children's lives daily and whose dedication to quality education helps our children thrive and for our children who are the greatest gifts to us all and for whom we do all that we do.
We give thanks for all that we have because of your support, and we wish you a very lovely week off!!!

Mark your calendar for Friday, December 20th for a special Holiday Movie Night in the MPR to benefit our very own PTA. Doors will open at 5:30 with lots of food, snacks, warm drinks and other goodies on hand. The movie will start at 6:30 (run time is 104 min). This year we are showing Walt Disney’s Santa Clause 2 starring Tim Allen (rated G). It’s a great movie that’s just as funny for kids as adults. Admission is free and food will all be available for purchase. It will be a great way to kick off Winter Vacation- show your spirit one more time in 2013 and join us! Kids should feel free to bring sleeping bags and blankets and get cozy on the floor as the lights come down. CLICK HERE to see the flyer.

BE SURE TO SAVE THE DATE FOR ONE OF PTA'S MOST ANTICIPATED EVENTS OF THE YEAR – PROGRESSIVE DINNER WILL BE ON FEBRUARY 22ND
