Play of Difference / TOMORROW at 7 pm
- Pop-Hop is proud to present a performance/reading of Play of Difference, organized by Geneva Skeen, featuring artists Alex Wolf, Kimberly Zumpfe, Kim Calder and Greg Curtis.
Play of Difference is organized around investigating the procedures of turning text into ephemeral and/or ethereal material as it becomes transformed via the performative act of speech or vocalization.
In thinking about this vast, circuitous, and spectral gray area, Derrida's Of Grammatology has offered some critical guidance: In what space can one again listen to himself? Phonetic writing... announces death. The interior doubling of presence [via writing and its speech-act supplement], its halving, makes it appear as such, that is to say, concealing enjoyment in frustration, makes it disappear as such (from the essay The Theorem and the Theater).
In a group of three performances/readings, artists will examine subjectivity as it is found, enacted, and released in the "profound evil of representation," Derrida's description of the Theater.
