1. Upcoming BBQ restaurant
Did you read about the Mount Washington-based family-run catering business that's on the verge of opening a barbecue restaurant on Eagle Rock Boulevard where a medical marijuana dispensary used to be located until it shut down amid a federal crackdown on pot stores last year? 2. Kiwanis meeting
Mark your calendars: The Kiwanis Club of Highland Park is scheduled to hold its weekly board meeting on Thursday, Oct. 31. The Kiwanis will meet as usual at Milo Terrace Baptist Church Community Room, 754 N. Avenue 50, from noon to 1:30 p.m. The meeting is free; lunch is $5 at the door. As always, attendees are encouraged to bring their ideas for a better Highland Park.
3. ‘Behind the Scenes’ Southwest Museum Tour
Mark your calendars: The El Plan Del Southwest Museum Task Force, a local voluntary organization dedicated to connecting individuals in an effort to find ways for the long-term sustainability of the Southwest Museum, is organizing two tours of the museum on Saturday, Nov. 2. The first tour, at 1 p.m., will be bilingual and is limited to 50 people. The second tour, at 2 p.m., will be in English and is also limited to 50 people. 4. Highland Park Heritage Trust Community Preservation Awards
The Highland Park Heritage Trust is seeking nominations for its 2013-14 Community Preservation Awards in recognition of the preservation of Arroyo communities. Categories for the awards include everything from buildings, murals and gardens to individuals and organizational efforts that have made a difference in preserving the Arroyo.
