While the previous post dealt with players' production rates, this
one attempts to project actual production gains and losses, playing
with and without Jordan.
So I've essentially given weight to the minutes guys played with His
Airness. It's good to know how the bit-players did, but also
revealing to estimate the total team effects.
Again, Jordan's career divided into 3 periods. The 'SS' column
is 'sample size'. Averages, per player-season:
period. SS pts reb ast P.F stl TO blk
1985-93 54 -32 +00 +09 -05 -4 -07 +1
1996-98 26 +55 -24 +24 -02 -2 -03 +8
2002-03 25 +39 +33 +26 -13 +2 -13 +4
[I considered 1986 and 1995 to be 'without Jordan' years, as he
played only about 1/4 of those seasons]
These numbers do not represent actual average changes in player
production, since their minutes averaged a decrease in Chicago, and
an increase in Wash. Rather, a +/- for the minutes they did play in
the MJ years.
