Of course, you could shift McGrady over to the 3 from time to time,
but who plays the 2 then? On the bench is Andre Barrett, Gaines,
Tyronn Lue, Bob Sura (injured), and Charlie Ward (bad knee according
to ESPN). Sura and Ward are the best of that lot; Sura is hurt, and
      Ward is more of a 1 than a 2. He's also only 6'2", which makes for a
small backcourt if Lue is starting.

the other night when houston played portland the trailblazers had
      shareef abdur-rahim, all 6'9" and 230-240lbs, guarding the 6'7"
mcgrady the whole game, with 6'5" derek anderson guarding the 6'6"
jimmy jackson. remember jackson played SG his 1st full 8 seasons in
the league, and was the SF in houston because the smaller cuttino
mobley was the SG (also SF/SG in atlanta in 99-00 when SG/SF j.r.
      rider was there)...

so it doesn't really matter what position designations you give
either mcgrady or jackson, they are both going to play major minutes.
mcgrady has had very high touches/min the past two seasons, that of a
good PG, upwards of 1.6 - 1.7 touches/min, and will assuredly be the
primary ball-handler for the rockets this season, regardless of
whether he plays SG or SF, and jackson has touches/min of just half
that. PGs charlie ward and tyronn lue are there to primarily bring
the ball up, hit an open shot, play some defense, and stay the heck
      out of mcgrady's way...
