      Museum, March 27-29

      Dear Colleagues,

I am sending you this message to inform you of the conference to be held in
Philadelphia at the end of March. It will be the first full-scale
international conference on Cypriot archaeology to be held in the U.S. in 20
      years.

"The Ancient Kourion Area: Penn Museum's Legacy and Recent Research in
Cyprus" will provide a holistic focus on the greater region around Kourion,
from earliest prehistory through medieval times. Conference participants
will revisit old excavations in the light of recent interdisciplinary
research in order to set an agenda for future directions. The program
includes ample time for general discussion among presenters and audience.

The first scientific investigation of Kourion was undertaken by the
University of Pennsylvania Museum between 1934 and 1953. A portion of the
finds were exported to Philadelphia, and some are currently exhibited in the
Museum¹s Greek and Roman galleries. A small temporaty exhibition of
additional material will accompany the conference.

Details are now available on the Penn Museum website
      http://www.museum.upenn.edu/cyprus <http://www.museum.upenn.edu/cyprus> ,
and I have attached the full program to this message as well. Registration
can be done on-line at the website.

Please pass this information on to any other colleagues who might be
interested, and I hope to see many of you there as well. Don't hesitate to
contact me directly if you have any questions.

      Sincerely,
      Ellen Herscher
