- Journal of Epigraphy and Rock Drawings (JERD) is an annual
periodical published by the Department of Antiquities of Jordan. It
is devoted to the study of inscriptions and rock drawings in the
ancient Near East, especially Jordan and neighboring countries. JERD
publishes new epigraphic material and studies related to the Journal
main focus, but also articles in related fields such as archaeology,
material culture, cuneiform studies, among others.
At present the editors of JERD are preparing the second issue (2008)
JERD No 1 (2007) has already appeared. It contains the following

Farouq Ismail: The Hurrians in the Land of Apum during the Early
The latter study evaluates extensively texts from Tell Leilan in
northern Syria. In this lengthy article comprising 35 pages Ismail
focuses on the Kingdom of Apum with a thorough examination of
textual material from Leilan, but also from other sites. For the
first time a complete list of Hurrian personal names from Leilan
texts with commentary and literature is offered (pp. 91-104).
