The new isue of JNES (http://www.journals.uchicago.edu/JNES/journal/contents/v66n3.html), includes
      the following editorial note:

"Robert D. Biggs has been since 1971 Editor of the Journal of Near Eastern Studies, the journal of
the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations of the University of Chicago, serving
it with exemplary professionalism and rare dedication. After thirty-six years in this post, he has
decided to retire. The last journal issue for which he is responsible is the April 2007 issue.
Beginning with the July 2007 issue, Professor Biggs will be succeeded by an editorial team from
the faculty of the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations and the Oriental
Institute of the University of Chicago. The Editor will be Wadad Kadi, Professor of Islamic
Thought; the Associate Editor Magnus Widell, Head of the Research Archives of the Oriental
Institute; and the Book-Review Editors will be John Perry, Professor of Persian, and Rebecca
Hasselbach, Assistant Professor of Comparative Semitics, for the modern and ancient periods
respectively. We are very pleased to announce that Paula von Bechtolsheim will remain the Managing
      Editor..."
