- There is a reasonable quantity of literature on skull surgery
(trephination/trephanization) from the ANE going much farther back in
time, at least into the Chalcolithic period.Certainly skulls were cut
into and some actually healed, but whether the brain was involved is not
Joe Zias, amongst others has published on the subject. If he's lurking
on the list perhaps he'll expand on this note or others that are
familiar with the subject..
