      £33,925 - £40,042 including London allowance
The Petrie Museum of Egyptian Archaeology is one
of the greatest collections of Egyptian and
Sudanese archaeology in the world, and a
Designated collection. It illustrates life in the
Nile Valley from prehistory through the time of
the pharaohs, the Ptolemaic, Roman and Coptic
periods to the Islamic period. It is extensively
used for teaching and research and attracts a
wide schools audience. The museum has attracted
international acclaim for its online catalogue
and resources and for its outreach work with
Egyptian and Sudanese audiences and other people
      of African descent.

The Manager is responsible for all aspects of advocacy,
for overseeing strategic developments and managing all
aspects of the museum's work. The museum is scheduled to
move to the Institute for Cultural Heritage in
2010, and the postholder will play a key part in
the planning and organisation of this move.
Applicants must have a relevant degree and at
least 3 years' experience of successful strategic
      planning, operational management and managing
change, preferably in the heritage or museum
sector. Possession of a post-graduate museum
studies or equivalent qualification would be an advantage.

UCL Museums and Collections is a dynamic and
growing service which has won national awards. It
cares for over half a million outstanding
artefacts and specimens across arts and science
disciplines. Promoting research and teaching with
these collections is a high priority, and the
museums play a key role in engaging new audiences
with UCL's academic work. We are a friendly team,
committed to recruiting, developing and retaining
the best staff, and to diversifying our staff and
audiences. We are seeking to recruit enthusiastic
and creative people with a strong commitment to
      public service, audience development, and
      academic innovation. Excellent communication and
      organisational skills are essential.

Further details and an application form can be
      found at http://www.ucl.ac.uk/museums/jobs , or
can be obtained from Chris Cook at
      telephone: 0207 679 5038.

      Closing date 30 June 2006
Interviews will be held between 10 and 14 July.
