Peking University, Beijing, China
The Institute of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations at Peking
University, Beijing, China, as the only center in Ancient Near
Eastern Studies in China, is holding a Research Conference, entitled
¡°Building A Harmonious and Sustainable Society, Message from the
Ancient Near East¡±, to be held at Peking University Campus from
Tuesday 20 June until Wednesday 21 June 2006.
The purpose of the conference is to invite foreign scholars in our
field to visit China and to share their experience with Chinese
colleagues. China, an ancient civilization recently reinvigorated by
rapid economic growth, is interested to learn from scholars of other
great cultures how to meet the challenges and to incorporate ancient
experience in modern development. The working language of the
conference is English.
The Conference Committee is now calling for papers to be presented,
for sessions, lasting 30£50 minutes. Papers from all scholars in the
field of Near Eastern Studies, including but not limited to
Assyriology, Hittitology, Egyptology, Biblical Studies, Persian
Studies and Islamic Studies are welcome. The abstracts of the
proposed papers should not exceed 200 words and are expected by 30
April 2006, to Dr Yiyi Chen, <yiyi.chen@...
Applicants will be notified by early May. Please note that the
Committee cannot cover travel and accommodation costs and presenters
are expected to register for the conference. We hope to secure
publication of the papers submitted in due course.

are interested in this field of study and its development in China.
