      [Please excuse the cross-posting.]

August through October 2007 once again found the dedicated archaeology
professionals of the Italian Archaeological Mission in Old Nisa in the field
making new discoveries. The joint Italo-Turkmen team spent the season
continuing excavation of the Arsacid capital city at Old Nisa in
Turkmenistan, adding to the knowledge we have of the Parthians. The mission
was carried out by the Centro Ricerche Archeologiche e Scavi di Torino in
collaboration with the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National
Department for the Protection, Study and Restoration of Historical and
      Cultural Monuments of Turkmenistan.

A web page highlighting the Nisa 2007 season has been published on the
Parthia.com web site at http://parthia.com/nisa/nisa2007.htm Also visit
http://parthia.com/nisa/ where you will find links to pages about previous
      years' archaeological expeditions to Nisa.

The web page briefly describes the season's work with thumbnail pictures
that link you to larger images of the archaeological site, artifacts and
members of the expedition. Also included is a specialized "Old Nisa
Bibliography" which includes publications of the Centro Scavi di Torino and
scholarly contributions by the members of the Italian expeditions to Nisa.

The excavation team's final report is forthcoming, planned for publishing in
early 2008. In the meantime, it is wonderful to see pictures of the
excavations and to experience -- even if only vicariously -- the process and
      excitement of uncovering history.
