      Megan,

I'm trying to think of all the planning oriented housing people out there since this next HAC meeting is a really good one for those types.  Plus, it should be an interesting conversation.  If you know of any, please feel free to encourage them to attend.

      Hope you are well~

      Dear Housing Action Coalition,

This email serves as a reminder of the next Housing Action Coalition meeting on Friday, April 8th, 11am to 1pm at the Santa Clara Central Park Library, (2635 Homestead Road, Santa Clara).

This month, our meeting will be focused on one of the most important planning tools in the world of housing – the Regional Housing Needs Allocation, (RHNA, pronounced reena for all you policy wonks.)  RHNA is the process by which cities are allocated their housing fair share which is then incorporated into each city’s housing plan.  This RHNA cycle will be the first time we are implementing housing element law since the passage of ground breaking regional planning legislation, SB375.  In short, things are very different this time around.

The process for determining the RHNA is underway and we in Santa Clara County want to ensure that our county’s thoughts are well represented.  For that reason, this meeting will be a working meeting.  Laurel Prevetti, the Deputy Director of San Jose’s Planning, Building and Code Enforcement will lead a discussion about what our county believes ought to be factored into the RHNA process and thinking.  Our feedback will help Laurel and other members of the RHNA methodology committee shape the ultimate RHNA outcome.

RHNA is the backbone of housing planning.  When done well, it fosters buy-in, good planning, and paves the way for us to meet our housing needs.  We will also receive an update on the State budget as it pertains to the elimination of affordable housing funding through redevelopment.

Thanks in advance and we look forward to seeing you April 8th!

      Shiloh
