The Seward Christmas Bird Count will be held Saturday, December 24 from 9 am to 4:00 pm.

Field Counters will meet at 9 am at the Seaview Plaza conference room at Mile 0 on Third Avenue to confirm their assigned area and team. Plan to be outdoors all day, whatever the weather. The required $5 fee helps pay for the nationwide tabulation costs and a copy, if requested, of the American Birds CBC results. Feeder Watchers and Field Counters under 18 are not required to pay the fee but donations are always greatly appreciated. Feeder Watchers do not need to attend this meeting.

Feeder Watchers should plan to watch their feeders for at least an hour during the day, keeping track of total species seen, and maximum number of each.

Keep track of owls (and any other confirmed birds of the night) heard anytime from 12:00 am to 11:59 pm on Count Day, December 24th. Anyone can email in an owl report. Sightings of Santa and his reindeer flying across the sky get bonus points.

Information on any birds with deformed beaks will also be collected. Reports on these birds are appreciated any time.

Count Day results will be tallied starting around 4:15 pm at Resurrect Art Coffee House Gallery, 320 3rd Avenue. Feeder Watchers are welcome to attend, otherwise results should be emailed ASAP.

Count Week is December 21-23, and 25-27. Species seen, or owls heard, on any of these days that were not included on Count Day will be added to the grand list. It is not necessary to count the number of a species seen during the Count Week days. You do not have to participate on Count Day, December 24th, to help during Count Week.

Please contact me at c_griz@... for more information and also to let me know if you plan to participate as a Field Counter, Feeder Watcher, or Count Week Counter. All participants will receive an emailed packet to refer to for your convenience.

Thank you for your help in this very important citizen science project!
