      (From Nelda Osgood)
It was a nippy, beautiful fall day and the predicted rain held off. We walked from the Islands and Ocean Visitors Center parking lot along the slough to Bishops Beach and back. We saw at least 21 different species including the following:

      mallard
      red breasted merganser
      American wigeon
      green-winged teal
      merlin
      gloucous-winged gull
      Wilson's snipe
      Steller's jay
      greater yellow legs
      bald eagle
      gyrfalcon
      black scoter
      mew gull
      red-necked grebe
      horned grebe
      pelagic cormorant
      common eider
      harlequin duck
      Northwestern crow
      common raven
      chickadee
pod of 8 to 12 humpback whales
raft of 30 or so sea otters
