Thursday High Tide
- Thursday evening's high tide off Westchester was about 28.5 feet and gorgeous. The north tunnel flock held about 60 Dowitchers, 2 juv. Hudsonian Godwits, one group of 17 Semipalmated Plovers, and both Yellowlegs were roaming everywhere. More of the same was strung out from the south tunnel to Fish Creek including 6-7 Spotted Sandpipers and 7 Least Sandpipers,. There are also a few terns and a few Bonaparte's still on the mud flats.
6 Snipe chattered their alarm calls near the Lagoon outfall, 2 Kingfishers watched the pond, and 5 Rusty Blackbirds flitted in the trees between the bike trail and the lagoon (near the radio tower.) Also in the Outlet Pond was a Green-Winged Teal with 4 very young and very downy chicks. If you've got any tips to induce premature aging, they can use all the help they can get.
