Welcome to the Birding Hotline for interior Alaska as of April 1.
A NORTHERN HAWK OWL was seen at mile 9 on the Steese
Highway on March 30. Another NORTHERN HAWK OWL was
seen on Viewpoint Drive off of Farmer's Loop on March 19.
A flock of 50 - 60 SNOW BUNTINGS is being seen daily in the
UAF Ag fields.
A RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH was seen in Salcha on March 30
Also on March 30, a NORTHERN GOSHAWK was seen on Beberg Court.
An AMERICAN ROBIN was seen at the Wedgewood Resort on March 27.
A BALD EAGLE was seen at the corner of Miller Hill Extension and Harper
Rd. on March 25. Also on March 25, a GREAT GRAY OWL was seen 1 mile
North of Mile 11 Chena Hot Springs Road.
Upcoming events include:
Birds of the Boreal I - Identifying Grouse, Woodpeckers, & Owls will take
place on April 2 from 7-9 PM at the ABO Center for Education & Research.
The cost is $12/person; $10/ABO members (Or $60/$50 for the whole series)
Birds of the Boreal II- Diurnal Raptor Identification will be presented by
Dr. Carol McIntyre of the National Park Service on April 9 from 7-9 PM at
ABO Center for Education & Research. The cost is $12/person; $10/ABO
members (Or $60/$50 for the whole series)
Birds of the Boreal III- Identifying those Little Birds (Passerines), will
presented by Susan Sharbaugh on April 23 from 7-9 PM at the ABO Center
for Education & Research. The cost is $12/person; $10/ABO members
(Or $60/$50 for the whole series)
