FOS Eagle Love!
- Our Season's first houseguests from hell showed up, so we took a quick
tour of town on Saturday afternoon. Anchortown looked gorgeous from
the Arctic Valley road, and we got good views of (only) about 6 of
Stacy's Ptarmigan, and a Fabulous view of the now-resident adult
Golden Eagle who was kind enough to circle directly overhead at low
We wound up at Potter's Marsh and took a look at the Eagle's nest on
the back side. There was one adult Bald about 2 trees away from the
nest, and within 5 minutes her boyfriend showed up for the FOS Eagle
Nookie!!! There's still 3 feet of snow, but Spring is in the Air!!
She acted like a stripper with 4 other boyfriends, but none of them
showed up while we were there.
So I have a question. This nest is maybe 200 yards south of the
world's greatest nest tree that blew down a year or so ago. I'm
guessing that it's too close to have been there when the first nest
was active because Eagle territories have to be way bigger than that.
Does anybody know if this is the same pair that just moved into a new
nesting site a couple of hundred yards from the old nest? Or is it a
new pair that moved into the territory that opened up when the old
nest blew down? If anybody has been watching them closely enough to
know the family history, the rest of us would love to know.
