      To Seth Wagner's impressive list, add a beautiful, breeding plumage COMMON LOON just south of the harbor uplands. I watched it preen half-rolled over with its huge paddlers warming in the brief sunshine.

      Also a FOX SPARROW, singing a dialect that is not from this area, and a flock of beautiful GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROWS industriously working on a mossy roof.

      Despite the chilly weather. it is a fabulous time of year!
