The Washington Post is looking for an editor/producer for its Opinions section. The job plays a crucial role in connecting many of The Post's best-known writers with a wider audience, and the ideal candidate will have digital savvy, sharp editorial judgment, solid editing skills and fluency in politics and policy.
Responsibilities will include:
-- Copy-editing a variety of pieces, from blog posts and columns to gallery captions and display type;
-- Helping to determine how Opinions articles will be presented on web and mobile pages;
-- Overseeing production of the digital Opinions pages, crafting compelling headlines, associating strong visuals and packaging related content;
-- Monitoring the online Opinions pages to ensure everything is displaying as intended, and troubleshooting anything that isn't;
-- Creating multimedia and interactive elements, including polls, photo and cartoon galleries, videos and cartoon animations;
-- Identifying social media opportunities and coaching our writers on best practices;
-- Helping to conceive and implement ideas that get readers more involved in the conversation, that provide context and depth to our content and that leverage new applications and technologies to make the section more dynamic, more influential, more interesting and more fun.
Some weekend and/or evening hours may be required.
