Publications editor, website specialist; Reston, VA
- A small national trade association in Reston, VA seeks highly organized, independent individual for immediate opening as sole editor. This key position is responsible for editing the publications (monthly technical magazine, newsletter, annual directory, and website content), crafting of communications pieces (press releases and some articles), website management (including design and content updates), and committee support.
Candidates should be a seasoned career professional that possesses excellent editorial and grammatical knowledge and has at least three years experience excelling at writing and editing technical and scientific articles for grammar, content, style, and substance. Candidates must possess excellent communications (written and verbal), research, and organizational skills and be proficient in InDesign. Candidates must be able to work independently and efficiently, meet deadlines, and handle multiple tasks in a busy, deadline-oriented environment.
Besides editing all documents for the company, this position is responsible for managing the website content and changes, IT, and related vendors as well as other office systems. Knowledge of Dreamweaver/ColdFusion and/or IT is a huge plus.
Not an entry level position. Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, or related field is required. Specialized training in copy editing and proofreading highly desirable and a Masters degree in journalism is a plus. Strong working knowledge of and direct experience with the Chicago Manual of Style is preferred. Candidates will be given an editing test and will need to provide unedited writing samples.
