- The Advocate has an opening in the Newsroom for a full-time Copy Editor/ Paginator to work 40 hours per week.
Summary of Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
The job consists of editing news stories for accuracy and fairness, writing headlines and designing and building news pages using an InDesign pagination system. The job includes nighttime hours and weekend work.
Required Education, Prior Work Experience & Specialized Skills and Knowledge:
At least two years copy editing experience and a bachelorâs degree in journalism or related field. Good organizational and time-management skills are a must. The job requires experience in all aspects of daily newspaper copy desk work, including but not limited to grammar, libel issues, newspaper style and newspaper page-design principles. Previous pagination experience with InDesign is a plus. Knowledge of new digital media, including such electronic devices as e-tablets and smartphones, is very desirable. Must be willing to learn to blend traditional processes of handling news copy with new methods that involve posting news to the Web and using other electronic forms of dissemination.
