Title of Position: Web Editor/Team Lead
Reports To: Director, Publishing
The Web Editor is responsible for developing the content and editorial plan for the website. In addition to managing content and working with a pool of content owners/contributors, the Web Editor must take the entire visual presentation of the website into consideration, with an understanding of how all of the elements impact its architecture and user experience. The Web Editor serves as team lead for the online publishing teamâs product line, including news, Connections, Congress News, OR Product Directory, and publications website content. The Web Editor also serves as a leader in terms of driving overall vision and strategy for the web, as well as assessing and recommending new technologies and ways to render content.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
â¢ Supervises work of team; oversees and manages teamâs product line and operations; provides guidance and leadership with regard to AORNâs online presence.
â¢ Ensures deadlines are met and products are delivered on time and on budget.
â¢ Ensures team efficiency and productivity; streamlines processes and improves team productivity.
â¢ Drives overall vision and strategy for the web; develops web content strategy.
â¢ Manages web content, style and voice, including consistency and organizational branding. Creates/maintains web style sheet.
â¢ Manages website editorial style/language to develop high standard and good quality content.
â¢ Edits and approves content from content owners; writes, edits, and proofreads new content for assigned publications pages. Corrects or marks errors using required editing procedures.
â¢ Works closely with other editors/writers, designers, and content owners to ensure content and editorial style standards are met.
â¢ Ensures a consistent image/identity representation.
â¢ Works with developers to assess any technical challenges in displaying the content.
â¢ Responsible for making new and existing web content search-engine friendly, while maintaining editorial quality and readability.
â¢ Establishes and disseminates SEO guidelines for web content; works with e-commerce, internal clients, and editors to define and implement SEO strategy.
â¢ Selects and posts new images/multimedia for web; evaluates and approves images/multimedia posted by others.
â¢ Works cross-departmentally with those who are responsible for providing website content; serves as web content liaison. Establishes positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders; collaborates with other publishing teams.
â¢ Ensures best practices and web usability. Assesses and recommends new technologies and ways to render content.
â¢ Defines metrics, tracks and reports results with web analytic tools, monitors content analytics, and evaluates whether website is successful or not.
â¢ Trains and teaches/mentors others on the web content management system and web writing style.
â¢ Creates and oversees statements of work and contracts.
â¢ Oversees vendor relationships and platforms.
â¢ Identifies and recommends new publishing technologies, formats, and platforms that will benefit AORN.
â¢ Contributes to and helps monitor budgets, expenses, and payment of invoices.
â¢ With Director of Publishing and other team leads, participates in the planning of strategic and long-term initiatives.
â¢ Creates and delivers presentations to key internal and external stakeholders.
â¢ Other duties as assigned.
â¢ Bachelor's degree and at least 5 years relevant experience are required.
â¢ Skilled web writer, history of success adapting and applying SEO strategy and tactics including linking, keywords, metadata; web copywriting skills to increase website traffic; knowledge of how search engines read content and what differentiates well-optimized content from poorly optimized content.
â¢ Project management experience; organized, task-oriented, and deadline-driven.
â¢ Experience leading a team with multiple projects and competing deadlines.
â¢ Proficient with Google Analytics and other web analytics tools.
â¢ Knowledge of web usability guidelines, web layout principals, best web practices and online writing.
â¢ Proficient with Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
â¢ Versed in AP style; strong grammar and editing skills.
â¢ Strong organizational skills.
â¢ Good communication and interpersonal skills.
â¢ Understanding of approval processes for and editing of online content to create text that meets the objectives of the organization's online presence.
â¢ Ability to interface with and mentor content owners, IT programmers, and graphics staff to maintain web standards.
â¢ Ability to create, edit, post multimedia content, basic Flash, podcasting; able to evaluate and approve images/multimedia posted by others.
â¢ Live streaming experience preferred.
â¢ Experience in execution of social media campaigns.
â¢ Proficient with HTML/CSS/web content management systems.
â¢ Ability to demonstrate and hold others accountable for organizational values of: communication, quality, innovation and collaboration.
Non-smoking office environment, using a computer, telephone and other office equipment daily. Ability to travel to Association events, including the AORN annual Congress. Ability to work outside regular business hours when necessary for website updates and maintenance.
