Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia is currently seeking a copy editor to join the Whole Living team. This position will be responsible for proofreading, copyediting, and helping to route all stories for Whole Living and iPad, promotional material, advertorials, etc.
Read assigned articles in InCopy for grammar, spelling, sense, logic, and consistency with accuracy and speed, leaving notes in file for story editor and research editor. Use style guide, Merriam-Websterâs 11th Edition, Chicago Manual of Style, and other reference books to support suggested changes.
Shepherd individual stories through editorial closing process. Distribute proofs to editors as needed.
Input changes as marked by editors on page proofs. Check changes throughout process.
Read bluelines (confirming proofs).
Ensure consistency of style and terminology throughout each issue, and continuity among all issues. Discuss style concerns with managing editor/assistant managing editor.
Meet deadlines for reading proofs, circulating stories, and type-closing files as assigned by managing editor. Stay late to close stories as assigned by managing editor.
Work with story editor, art director, and design production to make sure all changes made to assigned stories meet WL style and are consistent within that story and issue.
Perform other duties as assigned by Manager.
Â·An interest and passion for Health and nutrition is preferred
Â· Candidates should have 4 years of experience as a copy editor, preferably with a major publication.
Â·Must have strong written and oral communication skills, an eye for detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Â·A working knowledge of Adobe InDesign/InCopy is a plus.
