The Naples Daily News, an E.W. Scripps newspaper located in SW Florida, seeks a creative designer for their daily publications, the Naples Daily News and Showcase, a weekly arts and entertainment tab.
The Daily News has been a consistent winner over the years for Best Use of Photography in the Best of Photojournalism contest sponsored by the National Press Photographers Association, and in iPOY, Pictures of the Year International. The newspaper puts a premium on design and pages that are visually-driven, and content packaged with elegance and impact.
The features designer would be involved with the planning and execution of features content to produce lively, engaging, content-driven pages. The job description includes, but is not limited to:
--Possess a clear sense of mission and embrace the Daily Newsâ design/presentation philosophy. Demonstrate knowledge of page design and be able to offer suggestions as needed.
--Demonstrate knowledge of computers and ability to use them and related equipment, including graphics-oriented programs and desktop publishing systems.
--Present the news clearly and on time, ensuring all product deadlines and quality standards are met.
--Coordinate all facets of features presentation and design for the daily product and related entertainment tab.
--Bachelorâs degree in journalism or related field preferred, but appropriate professional experience and training may be deemed an acceptable substitute.
--Preferred candidate has at least 3 years daily newspaper editorial experience.
--Demonstrated ability in publication design, picture editing, and presentation.
--Solid news judgment.
--Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
The Daily News uses the Saxotech front end system and InDesign for its design. Related experience using Photoshop and Illustrator programs, ability to make maps and graphics, is a plus.
