The ideal candidate is a native English speaker with good working knowledge of French and two to four years of editorial and design experience. This position reports to the Group Editor and requires expert knowledge of InDesign, Photoshop and Microsoft Word. There is a preference for a candidate with experience working in a daily newspaper environment and/or with a science/medical/dental publishing background.
Strong written and verbal English communication skills as well as a professional demeanor are an absolute must. The candidate must thrive in a highly collaborative environment while telecommuting from a home office. Candidate must be self-driven, possess excellent problem-solving skills, have the ability to juggle several projects at once and be able to meet tight deadlines. This position requires someone who is flexible and capable of solving problems as a member of a cohesive editorial and sales team.
Working 8â"10 weekends a year is part of this salaried position and is not compensated as overtime. Weekend work consists of travel to remote events to write stories and take photos for show-daily newspapers under tight production deadlines. Ability to liaise with sales team members and represent the company in an exemplary professional manner to industry representatives and expert authors is required. You will be reimbursed for travel expenses.
A strong sense of project ownership is important to oneâs success in this position. Candidate will be responsible for the editorial selection, contacting expert authors for articles, writing news stories as well as the design work for two publications in Canada. These editions will be entirely in English or bilingual (French-English). Excellent writing, editing and design skills in English are necessary and qualified candidates will be required to pass testing in each area. A good working knowledge of French is required, but one need not be a native speaker. Preference is for a candidate on the North American continent.

-- B.A. in English, journalism, communications or related field (candidates without the degrees listed but who possess relevant publishing experience are encouraged to apply).
-- Two to four years of professional experience in a writing/editing/design environment, preferably for a daily newspaper or weekly magazine.
-- Exceptional attention to detail, the ability to multi-task and work under multiple strict deadlines.
-- Thorough knowledge of AP style and grammar.
-- Ability to work both independently and within a team.
-- Expert knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and InDesign.
-- Intermediate to advanced skills in Photoshop.
-- Ability to assume responsibility of projects from concept to completion, including preparing files for release to various print vendors and assisting other editors with writing stories, copyediting and file uploads.
-- Sound knowledge of the editorial process to include liaising with authors and industry representatives, content creation and content tracking.
