Freelance copy editor, Aptara science journals
- Aptara seeks candidates for freelance copyediting of scientific journals. Ideal candidates have an established track record editing in the physical sciences. Candidates should know how to strike a balance between minimal intervention for well-written articles by native English authors and heavier intervention in the case on non-native English writers. Consistency and adherence to style guide are key. Some familiarity with the subject matter is necessary, but any well-trained copyeditor can master working with physics content with some perseverance. Basic grammar, punctuation, spelling, and adherence to a comprehensive physics style guide are key. Candidates having good familiarity with technical notation and mathematical expressions will thrive.
Candidates need to complete a short qualifying test and participate in a 4-stage assessment/training program. Aptara supplies the editing software (BaKoMa TeX editing tool) and training/support. Interested candidates who qualify need to have a dedicated weekly capacity. We offer competitive rates and a steady stream of work, with guaranteed weekly volume, to solid performers. PC platform required. Live work begins soon after the training program.
