Rodale Inc. is currently seeking an experienced Copy Editor for its Custom Content and Marketing division. The CE will support the Managing Editor with the day-to-day production and editorial tasks required to produce a monthly magazine. This position is located in our Emmaus, Pennsylvania office.
A key element of the position is to act as copy editor for a monthly magazine. Another role is to act as the AME. The job is fast-paced and the candidate must be able to multitask and handle daily curveballs thrown their way.
The CE will assist with any or all of the following tasks and responsibilities:
-Manage and update issue lineups
-Attend inter-departmental meeting and client meetings
-Monitor and maintain the production schedule and copy deadlines for each issue
-Follow up with editors, designers, production team and photo editors on deadlines
-Copy edit text from manuscript to proof
-Work with out-of-house editor and designer on layout fit, input edits into Indesign files
-Oversee freelance out-of-house research staff
-Copy edit layouts and prepare them for several rounds of client review
-Prepare final files for production
-Monitor and update issue maps
-Ensure smooth and constant communication between all departments and with the Managing Editor
-Monitor and update several content tracking charts and issue budgets
Ideal candidate will possess:
-Bachelor's degree in English, journalism or related field
-Minimum of 2-4 years experience in consumer magazines-with a background in copy editing, A.M.E.
-Excellent knowledge of AP style
-Ability to multitask and work well under pressure
-Excellent verbal communication skills
-Extremely detail-oriented, organized, and have a tremendous sense of follow-through
-Strong computer skills strong knowledge of InDesign, Word, and Excel required. Knowledge of K4/InCopy a plus.
