- The Advocate, a major daily newspaper in Baton Rouge, La., has an opening for a Full-Time Copy Editor.
Summary of Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
The job consists of editing news stories for accuracy and fairness, writing headlines and designing and building news pages using a QuarkXPress pagination system â" all under a nightly deadline. The job includes nighttime hours and weekend work.
Required Education, Prior Work Experience & Specialized Skills and Knowledge:
At least two years' copy editing experience and a bachelorâs degree in journalism or related field. Good organizational and time management skills are a must. The job requires experience in all aspects of daily newspaper copy desk work, including but not limited to grammar, libel issues, newspaper style, and newspaper page design principles. Must be familiar with pagination software, preferably QuarkXPress
