The Sports Copy Editor will be responsible for editing copy, writing headlines, and selecting and placing wire stories.
Writes headlines that are accurate and draw readers in with appropriate tone and flair.
Edits and trims copy to meet Enquirer standards for fairness, accuracy and timeliness.
Writes cutlines that explain what is happening in a photo and add value by treating cutlines as a point of entry for readers.
Works with the Design Studio to ensure stories are played at their appropriate length, in the correct zoe and that all story components are used.
Sorts through wire reports to compile budgets. Selects wire stories and works with the Design Studio to identify accompanying photos, graphics and local sidebars.
Reacts to change productively and handles other essential tasks as assigned.
Knowledge of the Cincinnati-area sports scene (professional, college and preps sports) is important, as is technological literacy.
iniumum two years of related journalism experience.
Excellent headline writing and copy editing skills.
Ability to meet deadlines and deliver results in a timely manner.
Flexibility and ability to work in fast-paced, high-volume, rapidly changing environment.
Sound decision-making skills.
Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work well with individuals within the company.
Must be proficient with Microsoft Office products (particularly Word, Excel and Outlook), and must have the ability and willingness to learn to use other newsroom computer systems.
Ability to learn new skills quickly, manage multiple tasks at one time, handle tight deadlines and communicate effectively in a team environment.
