      Greetings all of you,

It might sound as a surprise, but is one thats been expected for long.

The Western Amateur Astronomers has awarded the G Bruce Blair Award
for 2009 to Mike Simmons of Astronomers Without Borders and also the
      Co-chair of 100HA.

This medal would be presented to him on the Memorial Day Weekend on
Saturday May 23rd during the 2009 Riverside Telescope Makers
Conference-Astronomy Expo. at Big Bear, California.

This medal is awarded by the Western Amateur Astronomers, every year,
to an individual who has made truly outstanding contributions to
amateur astronomy. It is a kind of the "Nobel Prize" of amateur
astronomy and is awarded to a living professional or amateur
astronomer who has made an important contribution to amateur
      astronomy.

Past recipients also include Dr. Clyde Tombaugh, John Dobson, Patrick
Moore, David H. Levy, David Dunham etc.

This is not the first time that Mike has been honored. He has won several such international award and medals before. The only difference is that, he never stopped working after winning them. Anybody has met him face to face would recall the source of inspiration he was and the massive energy he had in encouraging folks take up astronomy as a major activity.

So.... is anybody heading for CA next month?

      Best wishes
