      Hi Ryan,

I think my comment was not blunt enough.

Yes it is a joke (a shame the homour is based on children dying though).

Yes, it makes fun of a characture of a "dumb South Carolina kid" who totally misses the point.

The problem is that I suspect that Thomas and Ted do not see the joke that way, and think it is mocking Obama rather than mocking the view held by some people that if you ignore gun violence it will go away.

I think it is quite likely that Thomas and Ted think the child is making a wise and profound observation, rather than seeing the child as a metaphore for adults who hold the childish view that ignoring the problem and carrying on as usual will solve the problem.

In fact, I think they do not even see it as a pro-gun control joke that makes fun of the pro-gun attitude.

      All the best,
      Ian

I wonder if you can tell us what the 'problem' is Ted?

        Hi Brian,

Thank you for your constructive comments on my observations.

I'm not sure what part of the world you are from, but in the UK ASBO is an acronym for Anti-Social Behaviour Order.  In none of my posts have I been insulting or anti-social (if you disagree on this point, please show me the posts and I will willingly apologise for any offence I've caused) and I have never been issued with any form of restriction.

On the other hand, Dave_m has repeatedly accused me of being an "out right liar" - even though he has agreed that I have been telling the truth all along.  Perhaps honesty and integrity are concepts that you either do not understand or do not believe in (and so you think nothing of Dave's behaviour) but in any other group, to throw insults and false accusations around in the way Dave_m has done would result in the moderator insisting that Dave behave in a more respectful manner.  Of course Dave is the moderator of this group so he is unlikely to chastise himself.

As I have said before on this group, in the time that I lived and worked in the USA all the Americans I met, worked and socialised with were amongst the most friendly, helpful and generous people it has ever been my pleasure to meet.  Dave's inability to admit that he made a mistake is unfortunate, but his rudeness and insulting accusations require an apology (or at least an admission that he "mis-spoke"......).

There is a sort of joke in Europe that goes:
"Advice to Americans traveling in Europe - Tell people you are Canadian"
I never really "got" that one until I encountered Dave's attitude.  I know from personal experience that Dave is not representative of the average American, but it is his attitude and opinion that is being broadcast to the world via this group.

        All the best,
        Ian
