On April 30, 2003 I quit smoking not because I wanted.I was a heavy smoker for over 20 years.I was one of those girls who started smoking at the age of 13 to impress the men.I liked it and I told myself that I was addicted because I thought I couldn't go without it.But everything changed when my doctor called to tell me that the nodule that showed up on my x-ray wasn't the only one. That the recent cat scan showed that I had 4 lung nodules in the right lung and 3 in the left lung. And that none of these were calcified. I also had scattered empysematous changes at the lung bases.Ground-glass opacities identified in the mid-central lungs fields.I dropped to my knees and I prayed to God that I live long enough to watch my children grow up. I prayed that with his help that I would forever give up smoking.I did.I was so scared that I was going to die.Smoking was the last thing on my mind.I also started taking suppliments and vitimins.I take selenium 200 mcg and Vitimin E because I read some where on the internet about a research that showed that when taken together it slows lung cancer growth. The first year I had cat scans every 4 months and then every 6 months and they were all stable no growth. And just when the 2 year mark was upon me a nodule changed shape(most likely due to the slice)so I was back to once a year. And then this past 2/2007 one of my nodules looked larger and a nodule was found on my thyroid.I had a biospy done almost 2 weeks ago on the nodule on the thyroid, still waiting for those results. And tomorrow I go in for a PET Scan.Nervous a little, scared yes but I have faith and I know the lord has blessed me and has gotten me through the past 4 years and he will continue to hold my hand and give me the strength I need to face the challenges tomorrow will bring.Lung nodules and lung diseases are scary but we are not alone.Together we can help each and support one another.Share our experiences and our fears.Find comfort and maybe even a new frien
