Group Description

Under Republic Act 8044, section 13, otherwise known as “The Youth in Nation Building Act of 1995”, the youth parliament shall meet at the call of the National Youth Commission (NYC) every two years and the delegates shall be chosen by the NYC taking into consideration equal and geographical representation among men and women. The National Youth Parliament (NYP) aims to serve as an encompassing government mechanism in addressing critical youth issues and in guiding policy formulation and program development for the youth in the Philippines.

The 5th National Youth Parliament’s major achievement was the review and validation of the Medium Term Youth Development Plan (MTYDP) of the Philippine Government for 2005 to 2010, which was eventually approved by Her Excellency President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo through EXECUTIVE ORDER 438 on June 27, 2005.

The MEDIUM TERM YOUTH DEVELOPMENT PLAN (MTYDP 2005-2010) will now serve as “the blueprint of youth development programs” in the Philippines until 2010. This was also the first time that the Philippine Government through the National Youth Commission initiated such pursuit of directly involving the delegates of the National Youth Parliament in the improvements, review and validation of the MTYDP.
