Just finished a piece in the LBQ where yet another Bordenite extols Lizzie's
pristine condition within minutes of her father's hacking. "Why did
witnesses not find her drenched in blood?" they ask...

      Three Reasons:

      1. Look at the photograph of Andrew diced up on the couch. Blood is no
problem! There was hardly any spatter, and most of it just oozed onto the
pillow (probably because of all that poison he imbibed).

      2. Look at that Prince Albert jacket wadded under his head! Would he do
that? (Andrew would have deplored the dry cleaning bill.) No, his killer
wore it as a coverall, then put it with the blood pool.

      3. The Reach Around. I've stood in the Dining Room and leaned around that
door jamb. His head was right there! Even a person with moderate reach
could have rendered ten blows. And only the sleeve and shoulder of the
      Prince Albert would be stained.

People should ask why Lizzie was so fresh after spending 20 minutes in a
hot, dusty loft trolling for sinkers for a non-existant fishing line while
      wearing a heavy silk dress.

          To Tesch:
Your reasons for not finding Lizzie drenched in blood are sound.  The main reason they didn't find Lizzie drenched in blood was because she didn't do it!!!

As for Lizzie looking so fresh after spending 20 minutes in the barn trolling for sinkers while wearing a heavy silk dress:  The dress she gave the police was not a winter dress.  Blame Knowlton for calling it a silk dress.  She gave them that dress on Saturday and burned the Bedford cord one on Sunday.  A dozen policemen got to see and speak to Lizzie Before she changed dress, yet no one claimed she had given them the wrong dress.

You can't go by Mrs. Churchill's testimony either, as she claimed Bridget was wearing a light blue dress.  Bridget testified  she wore a dark blue dress that morning and changed into a light blue one that afternoon.  Mrs. Churchill went home around noon and did not return to the Borden house that day.  And, if Lizzie looked so fresh on her return from the barn, why did Mrs. Churchill want to undo the buttons of Lizzie's blouse, as she looked so flustered?  Why were the women using wet towels to cool Lizzie off?

Tesch, you spent several years sitting on the fence, undecided as to Lizzie's guilt and finally decided she had to be guilty.  Seeing you have just about everything that has been written about Lizzie, recheck Radin's book, where he gave examples for reasons why some maids killed their employer.  Mrs. Brigham, the former curator of the Historical Society, had told me half a dozen times that Bridget would not have killed them for fear of losing her job.  So why had Emma asked Bridget if she was coming back when Bridget had packed her things to leave?
