I do remember 30 metres five years ago, this was when I used to diligently call CQ for about 15 minutes a couple of times during the morning all week and I thought myself lucky if a got three contacts during the week ! And they were always in Germany !
I was operating Pactor for a few years on 30 in the 1990's and the band was like the Sahara desert on a busy day, all these fellas had PK 232's but they only used them for sending packet, digital wasn't popular then.
Eventually getting tired of calling the world and not getting a response, something like these space people looking for life on distant planets,I gave up and went to 160 metres phone when the bands went dead.
I believe the bands are still dead ! I remember the days when 80 metres used to be open from 08 until 14.00 every day and I used to chat round the UK and Ireland, just listen to it now, total rubbish, dead all day and 40 is only any good for chatting to you fella's, no good for UK contacts
Take care, Mel G0GQK
