Contestia and ALE-400 Activity
- Rex, WB8TDG, was calling CQ via Contestia 64/500 @ 10.143. Since this
is a custom setting in Fldigi, RSID did not help in identifying the
mode. I could tell by the pattern of the tones that the number of tones
was higher than 32, so after some trial and error, I was able to copy
Rex's transmissions. We both reduced our power to 5 watts (or less) and
were still able to maintain 100% print. These setting appear to be a
little sensitive to QSB as it did not take much of a fade for it to
I picked up some experience with ALE400 over the weekend, so I decided
to call CQ on 30 meters. Bill,N9DSJ returned my call and we had a very
interested QSO. Bill walked me through the steps on how to set up APRS
for ALE400. Once, that was done, Bill sent an APRS message packet via
ALE400 and his QTH would be plotted on the maps supplied w/ MultiPSK.
The added bonus, was that MultiPSK detected that I had Google Earth
installed and also launched and plotted Bill's QTH.
