Group Description

1989 Glamour

Aim: To raise the status of 1989 until it is on a par with 1968.

"Roger Vivier, Andrew Geller, Charles Miller, Seymour Troy and Dan Palter were all influencial during this time. Although Vivier was credited with rediscovering the platform, Palter introduced platform, open toed slingbacks and was responsible for launching coloured leather in the 30's. Vivier's orthopaedic style cork soled platform shoe was included in Elsa Schiaparelli's 1938 collection. The orthopaedic wedge was originally Ferragamo's idea in 1935. In 1938 Ferragamo was thought to have created the famous platform sandal for Judy Garland."

"Oxford-educated Louise Bagshawe was the youngest ever contributor to the Tablet at the age of fourteen. Young Poet of the Year in 1989 and former President of the Oxford University Rock Society, she worked in the record business before leaving aged 23 to write full-time. A bestselling novelist and screenwriter, her work has been published in nine languages, and she has adapted her novels for major Hollywood film studios."
