Greetings 13th Mass Group !
Just a quick announcement - the latest webpage is up at 13thmass.org. This page is full of soldiers' reminiscences and experiences at their first MAJOR engagement, the fight on Chinn RIdge, the afternoon of Aug. 30, 1862; at 2nd Bull Run.
This is a milestone page for me - I've always wanted to get these stories out to a broader audience.
I have not yet adjusted the large images, so they may break the layout if your browser window is too small. Please let me know what you think of this page !
one note- The introduction to the page is longer than I would have liked, but I did not have time to make it shorter. Didn't Mark Twain say that ? Anyway, I found myself giving some details I thought necessary, up until the time the regiment went into the fight. --which was very near the end of the battle. There are MANY heroic charges and counter charges on both sides that happened during the two day battle, but I have primarily limited descriptions to the context of what the 13th Mass. did. You can always read more about the battle in books etc.
Best wishes to all-
I never understood why the 13th Mass was marching helter-skelter on the first day of the battle but I found out by building this page.
