Wonderful, FREE Online Resource!
- We are computer people by nature, lol. Yes, everyone here loves art
projects, crafts, science experiments and field trips, but we love
pretty much anything online! One of our most favorite online resources
is a website called Learning Games for Kids
My boys are ages 7 and 12 and they, like most children I'm sure,
love to play games. Board games, sports games, video games, and back to
that whole "we love all things computer thing;" online games. As
a homeschooler, I'm used to finding something educational in just
about everything they do and game playing is no different. I would like
them to at least pretend to attempt to maybe learn something when they
are playing. ;)
While they don't always play educational games, they do love the
games on this site. And yes, we count the game play on there as part of
their school day!
They have something for just about every subject. Animals, health, art &
music, math, vocabulary, spelling, literature, keyboarding,US States,
geography, social studies, science and even brain games. They also have
a few educational videos and songs and some activities specifically for
I would say that this site is primarily for the elementarygrade levels,
but my 7th grader still enjoys many of the games, like the geography
games <http://www.learninggamesforkids.com/geography_games.html> , US
States games, science games and brain games.
My 2nd grader loves, LOVES this site! Both of the boys are happy to be
homeschooled, but they are still children, lol. Every once in a while we
have a day where we seem to hit a wall with everything they need to do,
especially the younger one. Even on those days, he will gladly spend an
hour on LGfK without resisting or complaining. Some of his favorites are
the keyboarding games
<http://www.learninggamesforkids.com/keyboarding_games.html> , like
Homekey Kennys. It's a little difficult for him, but he keeps at it.
He is not a fan of handwriting and somewhere in his little brain, he
thinks that if masters a certain typing speed, I won't require him
to do any more handwriting. Poor kid, lol. He also really enjoys the art
and music games.
I apologize for the sales pitchyness of the review, but it really is one
of our favorites and it's one that is visited almost every single
day, regardless of whatever else we have planned. The best part about
the site is it's completely and totally free. There are a few ads,
but none that I have found obtrusive (especially if it being
ad-supported keeps it free) or inappropriate.
Can't say enough good things about it just wanted to share with
I am SO glad I found this Yahoo group! Can't wait to see what
goodies everyone else had shared!
