Hey Upcoming.org developers,
There are some really important changes to tag handling coming up soon that
I want to give you advance notice of. First of all, commas are now parsed as
tag delimiters, so we'll split up the tag input to our UI by spaces and
commas. Also, "raw" tags are taking a more prominent role. This means that
whatever you enter as a tag will be visible to you and anyone else via the
UI and also via the API.
Because the API splits tags by commas, and raw tags allow commas inside
double-quoted strings, we had to come up with a way to delimit the tags
differently. I'm currently playing with surrounding each individual raw tag
with XML-encoded double-quotes ("). We won't have separate nodes for
these attributes until a new version of the API, so this is probably how it
goes for now. Part of the reason for the change is that event.removeTag keys
off of the raw tag, and event.getInfo only returns the normalized tags, so
that can be difficult. I'm also contemplating adding an event.getMyTags
method that will only return tags contributed by an authenticated user.
This change probably won't be in production for a few weeks, but I wanted to
let you know about it now.
As always, your input is appreciated. Thanks,
