>> OPENING WORDS FROM THE EDITORBy Colin Vassallo, [Editor@...]
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone who celebrate it. Over this side of the
world, we don't, so it's business as usual. Yesterday I finished the
Edge autobiography and although it has its funny moments, it's not a
Mick Foley type of biography if you know what I mean. The Edgemaster
could've done a better job, especially with his WWE years. Chapters are
small (2-3 pages) and seems rushed sometimes. If you have $20 to spend
go buy it, if not, don't bother.
Today I missed my favorite show lately - Extreme Makeover: Home Edition
- so I'm p!ssed. LOL. That show - especially the cast - rules. Hey
ABC....I need a new house. Do you go overseas? Hehehehehe.
Execution...ended two wrestling careers! Did you know one was a
woman? Did you know 5 different wrestlers have gone by the same
stage name? Who was know as a Professional Dwarf Tosser? Think
ypu have it all on pro wrestling? How about back to 1880? If you

> RATINGS- RAW held up last week's rating, getting another 3.9 in a row with a
6.0 share off hours 3.9 and 3.9. The overrun did a 4.2 which was the
highest rated segment. In weekend numbers, Velocity did a 0.4 with a 1.0
share; Experience did a 0.5 with a 1.0 share and Heat did a 1.0 with a
2.0 share. (Ratings compiled by Nielsen Media Research and put online by
> WWE 'TAKES ACTION' ON BOB HOLLY- Following his recent unprofessional conduct against Rene Dupree during
a live event last weekend, WWE has fined Bob Holly and made him job in a
dark match during the Smackdown! tapings. Holly did the J-O-B against
Chris Masters off camera so it's not much considered a punishment. Holly
busted up Dupree's eye big time as you will see on tonight's Smackdown!
as a 'thank you' for getting a ticket while driving a car that was in
> IMPROVED COVERAGE OF WWE IN NEW ZEALAND- W-O Newsletter reader Amanda Fitzwater of nzpwi.co.nz sent in word
that WWE is improving their coverage in New Zealand as well. Starting
from January 31st onwards, RAW will only be delayed three days from the
US airing while Smackdown! will be delayed two days, both airing on Sky
1. Live Sunday PPVs will air Monday afternoon NZ time with a repeat
later that night. All of Sky's WWE programming in New Zealand in the
past has previously been on a two week delay.
> SMACKDOWN! PREVIEW- The following matches have been taped for tonight's Smackdown! on UPN.
Rey Mysterio vs Rene Dupree; RVD vs Kenzo Suzuki; Cody Steele vs Kurt
Angle; Dawn Marie vs Jackie; Booker T & Eddie Guerrero vs Orlando Jordan
& JBL and the ever present Tough Enough segment with another wanna-be
> TOUGH ENOUGH SPECIAL TOMORROW- A Tough Enough special will air on UPN tomorrow evening at 9PM. Titled
'WWE Tough Enough $1,000,000 Download' the one hour special will be
filled with exclusive never before seen segments from Tough Enough.
Footage scheduled to air tomorrow include training with Al Snow, a
behind the scenes look at the life as TE contestant, the trip to the
hospital of one of the contestants after facing Kurt Angle in the ring
and Dan Rodimer and Justice Smith dressed up as women applying for a job
in a strip club after losing a bet. All this and more tomorrow on UPN.
>> RAW TAWKBy Ginger, [GLRSS@...]
Sorry. Please don't be offended. . .I'm just in the Thanksgiving spirit.
I know it's been over a month since my last confession. . .um, I mean
COLUMN. . .and I'm not going to apologize for that. Quite frankly, life
has been busy and wrestling has been boring to me lately. That said, I
*would* like to apologize to those of you who took the time to write to
me about my last column. . .or at least the ones I haven't written back
to, yet. I know there's no good excuse for not replying promptly, but
maybe it's a consolation to know that what I've been up to is actually
GOOD for me! The truth is, after a thirteen year hiatus from working
out, I've joined a gym! I'd forgotten how good it felt to get exercise
on a regular basis. . .I have so much more energy now, it's shocking!
So, now I go exercise every night after work and then come home and work
some more around the house! Good for me, good for my house. . .not so
good for my e-mail! I'll answer everyone eventually, I promise!
Hopefully I'll get to it before everyone forgets who the heck I am!
So anyway, like I said, I've been left cold by wrestling over the past
several weeks. So much so that, when I found out David Copperfield was
coming to town a couple of Monday's ago, I went ahead and bought tickets
for the show and didn't even watch my RAW tape from that evening until
last weekend. Actually, I watched over a week's worth of wrestling on
Sunday. Imagine my surprise when. . .I WASN'T BORED!!! I don't know if
wrestling (WWE *and* TNA) actually got better, or if absence made my
heart grow fonder. . . Whatever it was, it's like I've fallen in love
all over again!
(By the way, if you've never seen David Copperfield live. . .SEE HIM!!!
We had tenth row tickets - and an AWESOME time!)
And, before I get on with the RAW Tawk, I have a little something to say
to my "neighbor," Rowdy Roddy Piper. On an edition of Impact a couple
of weeks ago, Monsieur Piper bragged about what he's done in his career,
who he's been in the ring with. . .and he wrapped it up by saying that
he "lives next door to a volcano." Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but
the last time I checked, Hot Rod lives in the state of Oregon. Mount
St. Helens is in Washington. We may all be part of the Majestic Pacific
Northwest, but STILL! From my driveway, it takes about four hours to
get to Portland, Oregon. And it would take me about two hours, give or
take, to drive to Mount St. Helens. So, Portland is about six hours
from Mount St. Helens. (I'm REALLY good at math!) That's *hardly*
"next door." Basically, what I'm saying is this: I may have never been
in the ring with Hulk Hogan. I may have never made a movie in
Hollywood. But I live *way* closer to Mount St. Helens than Rowdy Roddy
Piper does. Does that make me any tougher? Absolutely not. Does it
make a spot of difference in the grand scheme of life? Nope. Does
anybody give a rip? I doubt it. Then, pray tell, why am I wasting your
precious time talking about it? Dunno. Guess it's time to move on to
the next paragraph. . .
So, I'm watching Heat on Sunday night and I'm thinking, Val Venis. .
.looks like a penis! (Can I say "penis" on W-O?) If that wasn't enough
to make me reevaluate my appreciation of him, he actually went out and
purchased some trunks with his name on the back in salmon pink letters
to match those boots I made fun of in the not too distant past.
Hopefully, his newfound color coordination skills will keep his from
being the next head on the WWE chopping block.
(I love and miss you Rico, Chuck Palumbo, Nidia, Johnny Stamboli and
Speaking of Val Venis, what's this I hear about Edge's divorce from the
Big Valbowski's sister? From everything I'd read (Note: I have NOT
read "Adam Copeland on Edge" yet. It's at the top of my Christmas Wish
List, though!), I thought Adam and Alannah were soul mates. Imagine my
surprise when, among the feedback I received in response to my last
column, faithful Reader Linda told me she'd heard about Edge's divorce
and wondered if I had any information about his remarriage.
REMARRIAGE?!? So, I looked around a little and *did* find an interview
where he mentioned his divorce from Alannah, but I haven't been able to
find a word about a new wife. So, if anyone out there can hook me up
with some dirt, I'd appreciate it. . . Although, personally, I'm kind
of hoping the remarriage thing is a nasty Internet rumor. I mean, I
feel kind of depressed, really. If Edge was taking applications for a
new spouse, why wasn't I informed? I do, after all, have lots of
And, while I'm asking questions, what's this I've been seeing on TV
about "WWE 24/7?" There've been rumors floating around for years about
a twenty-four hour wrestling channel. Were the rumors true? And, if
so, where do I sign up?
I enjoyed Maven's turn as RAW GM a couple of Monday's ago - especially
seeing Edge and Christian together again! I'd forgotten how much I love
Edgeward as a heel. . . Not only is he much sexier when he's bad, but
he's abandoned all the dorky hopping around prior to descending the ramp
to the ring. Anyway, as entertaining as Maven's show was, I can't WAIT
to see what happens when Y2J takes the helm!
Wait a tick. . .Chris Jericho? On HEAT? Versus the General Manager
himself? Now THAT made my weekend! I didn't know who to root for. .
.until Jericho unleashed the verbal abuse on Stevie and called him an
@$$clown, that is. . . This is wrestling, NOT politics! Name calling is
rude. Funny, but rude. . .
The next night, the opening skit featuring Shelton Benjamin, Trish
Stratus and Vince McMahon seemed more like something we'd see on
Saturday Night Live than Monday Night RAW. I don't know about you, but
I think that's a GOOD thing!
Triple H was exceptionally well coifed on Monday night. His hair looked
so neat and tidy. . .it's a shame he had to get Batista all riled up. I
see bad hair in Hunter's future. . .
Remember I said that Edge's book was at the top of my wish list? Well,
scratch that. I want a Simon Dean tee shirt for Christmas!
The RAW Interactive question on WWE.com was "Is Triple H trying to run
Batista out of Evolution?" I wonder if one of the radio button choices
According to Jim Ross, the steel cage match between Triple H and Chris
Benoit will be held - of all places - inside a STEEL CAGE! Stay tuned,
folks. . .we're witnessing a historical event later tonight!
I'd like to know how the Hell Batista ended up bleeding at the end of a
five minute match that mainly consisted of him turning Jericho upside
down and trying to break his neck? Maybe in concentrating on his
moveset, he burst a massive vein in his forehead. . .
I wonder if Mohammed. . .whatever. . .has ever considered that he's
strip searched at the airport NOT because he's of Arab descent. . .but
because he's FOIN?!?
SWERVE! I knew it all along!!! Okay, no I didn't. I was as surprised
as anyone when it turned out that Triple H *wasn't* trying to "run
Batista out of Evolution." Maybe I'm just gullible, but I kind of
thought it was about time for a blow up between Triple H and Batista. .
.and it may really be on the way. I think it would be interesting to
see Batista as a babyface. But, in the meantime, I LOVE a good swerve!
When Randy Orton announced that the Battle Royal he has planned for next
week will be for the World Title, I could've sworn I saw Triple H's eye
twitch - a'la Chief Inspector Dreyfus in the Pink Panther movies. I
Best of all, if Randy Orton is GM next week - that means they're saving
the best for last! You can just about bet that Jericho's week will be
full of laughs and Total, Nonstop Action! :) And, I have a funny
feeling I'll have LOTS to write about, that week!
