I have been working on prayer shawls, Here are patterns dedicated to
those who are struggling or struggled with cancer.
Jenna & Flavia Pocket Shawl
You can use a worsted wool. Use a worsted wool that is a wool acrylic
Approx. 200 yards per ball, this takes approx. 5 balls
I used Lions Brand Homespun #372 Sunshine State
Use size 8 (5mm) circular knitting needles
16 stitches=4inches/10cm in straight stitch
Cast on 83 stitches
Knit five rows
Body of shawl:
Row 1: (RS) Knit
Row 2: K4, purl to last 4 stitches, K4
Row 3: Knit.
Row 4: K7, *p1, k3; rep from* to last 4 stitches, k4
Repeat rows 1-4 until shawl measures 59", ending with Row 3
Knit 5 Rows
Cast on 32 stitches
Work in garter stitch until pocket measures 8 inches
Sew each pocket centered, with lower edge appox. 3 inches from bottom
edge of shawl.
Laura's Blanket for Hope
Knit 7x9 inch squares
Size: 49 inches wide by 63 inches long
Needles: US 7 (4.5mm)
Yarn: Use worsted weight approx. 60 yds per square
You can adjust the needle size for stitches to achieve the 7x9 inch
You will need approx. 63 squares
Squares can be knitted or crocheted
The edges of each square are crotched and then sewn together with a
34 x 72
Caron Simply Soft
I chose Rubine Red, you can choose whatever color you like or the
favorite color of the person receiving the shawl.
4 skeins approximately, I cannot remember for sure.
Size 13(9mm) or size needed for gauge
8 rows= 2 1/4 inches
Knitted in garter stitch
10sts and 16 rows= 4 inches
Cast on 87 stitches
Rows 1-10: Knit
Row 11-( Right side): K11, P5, (K15,P5) 3 times, K11
Row 12: K6, P5, (P15,K5) 3 times, P5, K6
Row 13: K11, P5, (K15,P5) 3 times, K11
Row 14: Knit across
Row 15: K21, P5, (K15, P5) twice, K21
Row16: K6, P15, (K5, P15) 3 times,K6
Row 17: K21, P5, (K15,P5) twice, K21
Row 18: Knit across
Repeat Rows 11-18 for pattern until shawl measures approximately 70
inches or as desired. End with row 13.
Last 11 rows, knit across.
Bind off all stitches by knitting.
Denise's Afghan for Hope
Approx. 48-72 inches
Plymouth Encore Chunky ( Use a variegated yarn )
Approx 14 skeins
Size 17(12.75mm) 29inch circular needle
Gauge 8sts and 11 rows= 4 inches/10cms in double moss pattern.
Double Moss ( multiple of 4 sts)
Rows 1 and 3: *K2, p2; rep from* across row.
Rows 3 and 4:*P2, K2; rep form * across row.
Rep Rows 1-4 for pattern.
Cast on 86 stitches
Work even in double moss stitch until afghan measures 50 inches.
The edge of shawl can be finished with a crochet edge or with an I-
Bind off loosely.
