Mother Earth did have a lot of help --
not sure if the US and UN & UK & Australian & New Zealand
troops were still in East Timor and Indonesia in great public
numbers -- but certainly they were there in covert numbers.
the East Timor war was big news EVERY DAY where I lived a
few years ago -- in Aotearoa aka 'New Zealand'.
the UK (which includes Australia and New Zealand) was
and is GREATLY frightened by Indonesia's large population
and army and actions. nearly as frightened as they were of
Japan in world war 2.
that particular war against Indonesia was never declared
publicly, as far as I know, yet then again all of the West's wars
against Indonesia that I can recall have been covert.
here's a BBC blurb from 1999 on the East Timor / Indonesia war;
and here on why Indonesia is feared ...
"Indonesia is the largest Muslim country in the world ..."
because the West has had so VERY many covert ops going
on there for centuries -- it is hard for the 'BigBoys' to bring
their economic and cultural relationships with Indonesia
and SouthEast Asia into public view. hard to build bridges
of respect and collaboration.
anyway, the map above, and attached, will make it clear
why Australia is bug-eyed-frightened of Indonesia ...
