I've now modified my earlier "LOWP Converter" so that it can convert DOC, DOCX, HTML, RTF, and other standard file types to WPMac or WPDOS format, so that the documents can be opened in WPMac. The converter should be able to open any document file that OpenOffice.org or LibreOffice can open; the code of the converter is built on LibreOffice, with an Applescript that uses a file-naming routine devised by Smokey Ardisson.
So that I can test this in the real world, could someone send me a sample file of the kind that you want to convert into WPMac format? I'll run it through my converter and send you back the results without opening the file in WPMac or anything else. The formatting will of course be approximate (no converter is perfect), but the content should be easily editable. Please send such files to me directly, not to the group.
I want to work on one other detail before this is ready for public posting. For most files converted from the Word 2007/2010/2011 DOCX format (remember - this detail applies ONLY to DOCX format, not to the older DOC format) characters like quotation marks and dashes are incorrectly converted but the correct characters can be converted with a WPMac macro called FixDocX that I've written for this purpose. I would like to make it possible for this macro to run automatically when a converted DOCX file is opened in WPMac. Since the converted DOCX documents have ".docx." in its filename, is it possible to write an AutoOpen macro that does this:
"if the name of the opened document includes the string '.docx.' then Chain the FixDocX macro"??
Anyone who knows the WPMac macro language well can probably write the code in thirty seconds; it would take me far longer even to begin to know how to do this. If anyone can supply the relevant code, it will be useful to anyone who uses this converter.
Remember that this FixDocX macro is NOT needed for converted DOC and HTML files.

Under Windows, that's easy - just open the document in WordPerfect for Windows and save it in WP format. On the Mac, it's not quite so easy, because the import filters for WPMac are outdated. But do any members of this group need a program that converts other formats (DOCX, for example) into WP format?
