There are more recent builds floating around than 2.3, the
last "official" release that's included with the distribution
in the Links section here (thanks again to Marco for hosting
the link). I understand that SS now lets you open applications
that are in the Unix folder or subfolder thereof, and the little
bug where you click somewhere in your document and the
insertion point lands a character away has been fixed.
Point being, it's an ongoing project, generating a lot of
interest. Although it's stable and fully functional now,
it's in active development. As is our group's distribution:
here's an idea for a printing update.
At present, either to print or make a PDF file from your WP
document, you hit Command-P and OK three dialogs, the last
one giving you the choice between a print and a PDF. This
could be reconfigured in a way that might be more
The Laserwriter 8 driver can be used as well as the Adobe
PS driver, by running the Desktop Printer Utility to
configure the driver as a postscript translator (no printer
This would have the advantage of letting you choose one
driver or the other from the PrintChoice menu at the right
of the menu bar, after you enable PrintChoice with
One driver could then send postscript documents to one
folder within the Unix transfer folder, and the other
driver to another folder. Folder action scripts attached to
each folder would directly print the file or make a PDF of
it, without your having to answer the third dialog.
It's not a big difference either way, but if you e.g.
almost always print to paper, this would be a little more
convenient. Would anyone much prefer this?
